In 2008, Freescale Semiconductor Malaysia had the first Smart Car Competition which was successfully held on 12 and 13 December at SIRIM Hall, Shah Alam, Selangor. Due to economic crisis in 2009, 2nd Smart Car Competition was postponed to 2010. The competition was organized in collaboration with IEEE Malaysia Section, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Event was successfully held on 4 and 5 December 2010 at DECTAR Hall, UKM Bangi, Selangor.
Starting from 2011, Smart Car Competition is known as The Freescale Cup. The competition has caught the attention of MOHE hence was invited to be part of PECIPTA 2011. Tentatively, this year’s competition will be held in collaboration with MOHE, UiTM and IEEE on 13 until 15 September 2011 at KL Convention Centre (KLCC).

Overview
The Freescale Cup
(previously known as Smart Car Competition) is a high speed, autonomous, race
of RC scale cars. The race is part of Freescale’s Univeristy Programs to
promote engineering in the classroom. It will bring more challenge on
programming and electronic part. It is open to all local and private
universities in Malaysia where students have to come up with a team of 3
(maximum) plus 1 lecturer as advisor.
Well, what is this Smart Car
Competition about? Freescale provide us the model of the car, dc motor, battery
charger, battery, Microcontroller, and also a programmer board. Then you have
to use what you got and add in what you wanted to add in to make the car run on
the track in the competition. The winner will be the car that finishes a lap
with the fastest time. Sounds easy but the process is not as easy as you
thought. It spend three month to build the car intelligently.
This competition includes IPTA and
IPTS University where totally 42 team joined. UUM is the first time joined this
competition under Information Technology (Artificial Intelligent) and bring the
name of university management joined the engineering competition. It will open
the eye to another university that UUM also capable joint this kind of
competition.
For information
this competition has three rounds where the first round is the perquisite to
next round and 3rd round is the final round. For this
round UUM succeed to final round where compete with team from famous
engineering university.
